Investigation of the ultimate particle size distribution of a carbonate sand

A series of ring shear tests were conducted to investigate the ultimate particle size distribution a carbonate sand. The carried out under different stress levels, on three types specimens: 1) uniformly graded specimens made dry natural sand 2) remoulded crushed after first shearing large strains 3) grains but with same grading as in (2). type (1), very strains, led apparently stable gradings, distinct for each level. Only limited additional breakage could be induced by remoulding (type (2)) and subjecting them more shearing. Tests created at gradings (3)) from intact particles however significantly greater breakage. For stable, fractal was achieved. Analyses soil particles’ shape showed that aspect ratio, sphericity circularity reach steady value parallel reaching grading. mobilized angle resistance not samples, suggesting final dominates behaviour.
